Description
Common name: Sweetgrass Braid
Latin name: Hierochloe odorata
Origin: USA
Sage Spirit Sweetgrass braids are made with sweetgrass from New Mexico and are native-made. Sweetgrass is a hardy herb with a sweet vanilla-like scent and is native to Europe and North America. Many Native tribes in North America use Sweetgrass in prayer, smudging or purifying ceremonies and consider it a sacred plant.
This dried herb is rolled into tight braids which do not burn, but rather smolder like incense. In fact, the burning of Sweetgrass Braids is done at the opening of many traditional Native American prayer ceremonies. The leaves, which can reach two feet in length, can also be woven to make baskets.
These sweetgrass braids are native-made.
